Last night, a few of us went up to the top of the hotel and chatted with our guide and his friends. This was definitely not part of the itinerary and it was definitely a chance to get to know some real people from Turkey and we learned a bit about the LGBTQI scene in Turkey. Since Maya and I are hoping to develop a short-term faculty-led study abroad program, with a focus on gender issues, back to the region this was a very helpful conversation.
